A New Home for Coalition for the Homeless

Coalition for the Homeless has embarked upon an ambitious and most necessary project in Lower Manhattan. In 2003, we launched a Capital Campaign to build a non-profit support center just four blocks from the fateful site of ground zero. This center is pulling together the geographically dispersed programs of the Coalition, while enabling us to begin a new partnership with some impressive non-profit organizations to offer day care, parenting and children's services in the new building. The center, which is now about halfway complete, provides a cohesive and supportive environment from which to continue rebuilding the lives of New York's many disenfranchised and homeless residents.

The Downtown Center serves the homeless and formerly homeless residents of New York City, as well as those at risk of losing their homes. We assist them with their reintegration into the workforce through support services, skills training, and the planned day care center for the children of homeless job seekers.

The number of homeless and seriously disenfranchised New York's has risen dramatically in recent years. The crisis of homelessness in New York cannot be addressed without the focused and sustained efforts of non-profit organizations working together to prevent people from losing their homes and help those who are already homeless to get back on their feet. To be effective in battling this growing wave of social strife, there is a tremendous need for organizations like the Coalition to collaborate and advocate for new and cost-effective solutions. From the Coalition's center at a rebuilt Lower Manhattan site, our advocacy helps pave the way to hope, housing and self-sufficiency for the record 39,000 New Yorkers (17,000 of whom are children) who bed down in City shelters each night.

The property, located at 129 Fulton Street, offers three floors of service area, including ample space for a much-needed Day Care Center. The building is also easily accessible by public transportation.

To make 129 Fulton Street a reality, we need your help. If you would like to see your name on the donor wall at 129 Fulton Street, please contact Mary Brosnahan Sullivan, Executive Director at the Coalition for the Homeless call 212.776.2076.
