Children, parents, and performers will flood Central Park's Victorian Gardens on June 7th for Coalition for the Homeless' tenth annual Carnival Night for Kids benefit. Each year this event raises money for Camp Homeward Bound and the Coalition's Continuum of Care for Children. Victorian Gardens, the amusement park located inside Wollman Rink in the middle of Central Park, provides an enchanted setting for an evening of summer fun and entertainment for families.
Carnival Night for Kids treats children to one-of-a-kind amusement park rides, face painting, clowns, stilt-walkers, magicians and a variety of interactive games and activities. Adults can chat over a glass of wine and enjoy the summertime barbeque fare, while kids snack on popcorn, hot dogs, cotton candy and caramel apples. One of the evening’s highlights is the balloon-pop raffle, where 350 balloons are filled with donated prizes including vacation packages, airline tickets, gift certificates to prominent New York restaurants, and tickets to home games of local teams.
Your support for Carnival Night for Kids is especially critical to New York City’s homeless boys and girls this year. This decade is turning out to be the worst decade for homeless people since the Great Depression. Tonight, over 13,000 children will sleep in municipal shelters and welfare hotels. Countless more are living doubled or tripled up in overcrowded and often dangerous conditions. With your help, the Coalition will continue to provide vital assistance to an ever-increasing number of homeless and hungry children – the most vulnerable members of our society.
