PROGRAM DIRECTOR, RENTAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

POSITION SUMMARY:  The Program Director is the clinical, administrative, fiscal, and operations leader for the Rental Assistance Program.  The Program Director is the principal agency contact with the Department of Homeless Services and the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, and is responsible for ensuring program adherence with the terms of the RAP agreements, including delivery of all contracted services and timely and complete reporting, among other obligations.  Likewise, the Program Director provides a service vision and sets the tone for the RAP consistent with the mission and goals of the Coalition for the Homeless and the terms of the RAP funding contracts. 

QUALIFICATIONS:  BA/BS required; MSW or a graduate degree in a related human services or health discipline is preferred.  Five years of clinical/client service experience with at least two years of experience in a supervisory role required.  Experience with supportive housing programs, job training, and case management services for the homeless strongly desired.

EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT, ADVOCACY

POSITION SUMMARY: The Executive Assistant provides administrative and managerial support for day-to-day operations for the office of the Executive Director.  In addition to providing assistant and clerical support, the Executive Assistant conducts research and analyzes data for reports, correspondence, and presentations via the creation and preparation of spreadsheets, charts, graphs, tables and other visual aids and materials.  The Executive Assistant also directs special projects, prepares written material for publication, and serves as website administrator for the Coalition’s website and editor of the Safety Net newsletters.  The Executive Assistant performs job duties consistent with the mission and goals of Coalition for the Homeless. 

QUALIFICATIONS: BA/BS required; three years of related experience providing complex administrative support in a high-profile environment required; some legal, non-profit, and/or public policy experience preferred.  Solid working knowledge of office processes and business policy development required.  Proficiency in Microsoft Office products required; familiarity with Illustrator, Photoshop, Quark, and Raiser's Edge preferred.  Ability to work with minimal day-to-day supervision in a demanding, multi-task environment while remaining responsive to changing priorities is required.  Exceptional written and oral communication, and research, skills required.

CAREER DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR, FIRST STEP PROGRAM

POSITION SUMMARY: The Career Development Coordinator is responsible for all participant career development components of the First Step program including facilitating hard and soft skills workshops, internship placement and long term career development of participants. The Career Development Coordinator serves as the liaison with internship providers and works with corporations and volunteers to develop resources for the program in order to maintain and increase internship, workshop and employment contacts. The Career Development Coordinator also provides individual career planning for participants. Along with other First Step staff, the Career Development Coordinator works closely with the Advisory Board and committees to guide and develop the program. Likewise, the Career Development Coordinator performs all job duties consistent with the mission and goals of the Coalition and the First Step program and relevant funding agreements. 

QUALIFICATIONS: AA/AS in human services, business, education or other related field required (or a GED/High School Diploma and at least four years of relevant work experience).  BA/BS in social work, human services, business, education or other related field preferred.  Minimum of two years experience in job readiness and/or job placement desirable. Teaching experience desirable. Some prior case management experience, especially with homeless persons, the mentally ill, substance users, and persons living with HIV/AIDS preferred.  Proficiency in office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) required. Excellent organizational and oral/written communication skills and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with the highest degree of professionalism required. Demonstrated ability to motivate others, leadership skills, ability to work independently and be a team player required. Must also have the ability to multi-task. Spanish proficiency a plus.

PART TIME SITE COORDINATOR - YOUTH SERVICES (12-15 HRS/WK)

POSITION SUMMARY: The Site Coordinator of Youth Services is responsible for the daily implementation of the after school curriculum consistent with the policies of Coalition for the Homeless. He/She helps to plan and carry out lessons incorporating homework assistance, tutoring, educational building activities, as well as creative and recreational activities. The Site Coordinator performs job duties consistent with the mission and goals of the Coalition for the Homeless and the terms of any funding contracts. This is a Part-Time position without employee benefits.  Number of hours and days per week are negotiable, but expect to work 12.5 to 15 hours per week. 

QUALIFICATIONS:  A minimum of two years of college and/or comparable prior experience in working with school age children in educational and recreational settings required. Must be a team player, flexible, outgoing, focused and enjoy working with children. Bilingual (Spanish/English) candidate is a plus.  

Salary Range:  $12-$14 per hour

SENIOR POLICY ANALYST-ALBANY

POSITION SUMMARY:  The Senior Policy Analyst-Albany assists in monitoring, assessing, and informing the legislative and administrative processes of State government on matters of concern to the Coalition.  The Senior Policy Analyst-Albany performs legal and empirical research, drafts legislation and supporting materials, writes and delivers testimony or comments in response to legislative or administrative proposals, analyzes policy and budget issues, and participates in strategy and message development for the Coalition’s advocacy/public policy agenda, litigation, and various campaigns.  The Senior Policy Analyst-Albany also tracks policy developments in the Legislature and in State agencies, including but not limited to, the Office of Temporary & Disability Assistance (OTDA), the Office of Mental Health (OMH), and the Executive Chamber.   The Senior Policy Analyst-Albany performs job duties consistent with the mission and goals of the Coalition for the Homeless.   

QUALIFICATIONS:  A B.A./B.S. in political science, public administration, or related discipline is required.  An advanced degree in a related discipline preferred.  Three years of recent experience with New York State legislative and rulemaking processes is required.  Direct public policy analysis experience strongly preferred.  Knowledge of and commitment to principles of legislative representation and lobbying essential.  Ability to work on deadline and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, is required.  Ability to perform multiple tasks and work independently and as a team member is essential.  Familiarity with State housing and other social services programs strongly desired with knowledge of the interaction among State, local, and Federal policies helpful.  Advocacy, public relations, organizing, campaigns, or government experience related to homelessness, housing, and poverty/welfare issues preferred.

SUMMER CAMP POSITIONS, CAMP HOMEWARD BOUND ACA Logo Small

Coalition for the Homeless seeks seasonal counselors and supervisors for its Camp Homeward Bound program located in Harriman State Park. Started in 1984, the Homeward Bound program was the first camp in the nation created specifically to serve homeless children.  Camp Homeward Bound provides a safe, predictable, and highly structured environment for homeless youngsters (ages seven to fifteen). We foster the development of positive social and learning skills and is scheduled for three sessions each summer.

At Camp Homeward Bound camp staff receive pre-camp training, ongoing support, and mentoring throughout the summer. Counselors and supervisors develop problem solving and leadership skills that future employers may find valuable. Camp staff aim to positively influence a group of young people in need of strong positive role models. They look forward to meeting new people from around the world, forming lasting friendships, and working with a team of dedicated individuals seeking to make a difference in the lives of young people.

Seasonal Positions Available

  • Health Center Director and Nurse: manage and oversee Camp's Health Center. We are seeking a RN and LPN/EMT.
  • General Counselors: should have experience working with young people, preferably children from at-risk backgrounds. We are seeking individuals ages 18 and above who are mature, energetic, patient, and committed to providing a safe and supportive summer camp experience. Being a counselor at Camp Homeward Bound requires a genuine love for children, the ability to work as a member of a diverse team, and a desire to have a great time this summer.
  • Specialty Counselors: plan and supervise program areas, such as Learning Center, Arts/Crafts, Athletics, Cooking, Dramatics/Music, Ceramics, Nature/Exploring, Challenge/Ropes course, and Dancing. Applicants require knowledge and experience in their specialty area.
  • Waterfront Director and Lifeguards: staff Camp's most popular area. We are seeking a WSI with prior camp experience and individuals with lifeguarding certification and experience.
  • Cooks: The kitchen serves three meals each day to 100 campers and 85 staff members.
  • Support Staff: Homeward Bound also needs staff to facilitate the operations of the camp. Kitchen, Office, Medical and Maintenance team members are an essential part of the Homeward Bound community. Applicants require relevant knowledge and experience.
