Cheryl

Cheryl

After finding out she was pregnant at the age of 17 and being kicked out of her house, Cheryl and her boyfriend spent the next five years in and out of the shelter system. They had two more children, but the stress of not having a place to stay was too much for the relationship. Her boyfriend disappeared and Cheryl was left on her own with three daughters to care for. While in the shelter, she was referred to the Coalition, and we moved her into our Bridge Building. She loved the sense of family that came from living in the apartment building. If there wasn’t enough food, she could go to the food pantry downstairs, and the Coalition was always there to make sure she and her children could celebrate the holidays with Thanksgiving baskets, clothing and toys. After living with us for just over a year, Cheryl found her own apartment and is moving out of the Bridge Building. We are sad to see her go, but are delighted that she is now able to live securely and independently for the first time in her life.
