Thank You for Supporting Us in 2020!

We wanted to take a moment to thank you for everything you made possible in 2020. We faced one of the most difficult periods in recent history — one that transformed all of our lives. As homeless New Yorkers confronted new life-threatening challenges every day, the Coalition was truly humbled by the number of people who stepped up to help. 

Thanks to you, we were able to meet the increased surge in need on the streets and continue to serve thousands of people each and every day. Here are a few of the highlights:

• The Grand Central Food Program ramped up meal production by 40 percent, providing more than 400,000 hot meals to those in need.
  
  
• We distributed more than 130,000 face masks – with another 100,000 on the way –  50,000 bottles of hand sanitizer, hundreds of coats, thousands of cash cards, and other emergency items to people living unsheltered on the streets.
  
  
• Our Eviction Prevention Program saved hundreds of families on the verge of homelessness through one-time eviction prevention grants and case management.
  
  
• The First Step Job Training Program went remote, continuing to give homeless and low-income women the job skills and certifications they need to succeed in the workplace.

• Our housing programs provided permanent housing and temporary rent relief to formerly homeless households.

• Through Project Back to School and the Holiday Toy Drive, we delivered 3,000 backpacks full of school supplies and more than 17,000 holiday gifts to children in NYC shelters.
  
• Our Advocacy Department urged elected officials to protect homeless New Yorkers by providing access to public restrooms and resisting calls to move people back into congregate shelters, while continuing to push for more supportive and affordable housing.
