Coalition for the Homeless Responds to Gov. Cuomo’s State of the State Address

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo gave his State of the State address today, outlining his steps to address the homeless crisis in the state. In response, the Coalition for the Homeless issued these statements from President & CEO Mary Brosnahan:

On Supportive Housing:

“The Coalition for the Homeless is heartened that Governor Cuomo recognizes supportive housing as the cornerstone to solving homelessness and today committed funding for 20,000 new units of supportive housing over the next 15 years. We are confirming that this commitment is reflected in his executive budget and look forward to working in partnership to ensure this vital goal is realized.”

On NYC Comptroller Scott Stringer Shelter Monitoring:

“The Coalition for the Homeless has served as the independent monitor of New York City’s shelter system for over 30 years, and we’ve also worked closely with Scott Stringer since he was first elected to public office. We very much look forward to having his energy and insight to help us identify substandard shelter conditions and reform how emergency shelter is provided to homeless New Yorkers.”
