Supplemental Nutrition Assitance Program (SNAP)

Starting March 2026,a new federal law requires people who receive Supplementary Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and are considered Abled-Bodied Adults Without Dependents (ABAWDs) to meet certain work requirements. These new work requirements may apply if:

  • You are between 18 and 24 years old, and
  • You do not live in the same household with a child under the age of 14, and
  • You are not pregnant or caring for a person who cannot care for themselves; and
  • You do not have do not have a health condition that keeps you from working.

If you receive an ABAWD notice and are not working, in school, or otherwise meeting the requirements, HRA will make an appointment with a contracted provider to help you find work activities to meet the ABAWD requirement. You will need to attend the appointment. There are remote meeting options available.

If you do not meet ABAWD work rules for any 3 months in a 3-year period, you could lose your SNAP benefits.
