BFS Goes ‘Around the World’

‘Around the World’ week was a fun way to introduce our BFS campers to the histories and cultures from places both in and outside of New York City.

From Brazil, to Africa, through Egypt and into Asia, and even into old New York, the boys and girls immersed themselves in the rich traditions and customs from across the globe.

Last week was “Around the World’ week. We went on a trip to the Tenement Museum and saw how back in the 1865’s immigrants lived in a tenement house. A tenement is a five story building with four apartments on each floor where a lot of people live. It was very fun just witnessing how the building structure was like and what people did and used for their daily lives. My other favorite day was when we were split into three groups either working on Ancient Egypt with hieroglyphics, China with the Chinese drums and India with the henna designs.

‘Under the Sea’ with Bound for Success

Under the Sea is always a favorite theme in Bound for Success. For the duration of the week, the kids spend their time learning about fish and other sea creatures. The older children read books about underwater wildlife, while the younger ones draw pictures and create fun games about them. The week is capped off with a visit to the Central Park Zoo, which always draws huge smiles.

Last week we went to the Central Park Zoo and saw the sea lions, penguins, sea birds, peacocks and other types of birds. We even went to a 3D movie called Ice Age 3! We also made an aquarium and painted fish to go inside it. We came up with a game about fish, too. I learned so much about all the fish! I never would have thought that BFS summer camp would be so much fun!
