As de Blasio Pitches Senior Housing, Advocates Push Rent Freeze Program

As Mayor Bill de Blasio promotes his campaign to increase housing opportunities for financially struggling senior citizens, his finance department is having trouble publicizing a rental assistance program for the same population.

Though the agency enrolled 11,289 people in the program over the past 18 months as part of a new outreach campaign and a change in the income threshold, there are still nearly 80,000 New York City seniors who qualify but do not enroll, city officials said last week.
