ARTWALK NY brings together hundreds of artists, art-lovers and other compassionate New Yorkers to celebrate the role of “artist-as-activist,” to raise awareness about the crisis of mass homelessness, and to support programs that directly help homeless men, women, and children.
Tonight, more than 62,000 New Yorkers – including 22,000 children – will sleep in homeless shelters, while thousands more bed down on the streets. The Coalition for the Homeless provides emergency food and clothing, eviction prevention, crisis services, permanent housing, job training and special programs for kids to over 3,500 people a day. Since 1981, we have given more than one million homeless New Yorkers a way off the streets.

Katherine Bernhardt is a Brooklyn based painter, currently residing in Flatbush, Brooklyn. A graduate of both The Art Institute of Chicago and The School of Visual Arts in New York, Katherine has been active in the New York art scene for over twenty years. Katherine is currently represented by CANADA in New York.
As an artist, she has explored several different themes, including super models, swatch watches, Moroccan carpets, fabric based collages, and currently, patterning every day objects, attesting to the symbols of our modern culture. Katherine uses acrylic and spray paint to make her paintings and draws subject matter from objects of daily life, like runs to the corner deli, the fruit stand, the 99 cent store, and the Caribbean-African influence of the neighborhood of Flatbush, Brooklyn.
As of recent, Katherine has had solo shows around the world, including MATE in Peru, the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, and The Contemporary Art Museum in Saint Louis. She is currently represented by CANADA in New York, Carl Freeman in London, and Xavier Hufkens in Brussels.
Michael Platt, also known as Mike, is co-founder and CEO of BlueCrest Capital Management. Prior to co-founding BlueCrest in 2000, Mike had been a Managing Director at J.P. Morgan in London since February 1998 with responsibility for relative value trading. He joined J.P. Morgan in September 1991 and in April 1992 assumed responsibility for developing its swaps business and then subsequently its options trading business. In April 1996 he became head of trading for all swaps products related to the 11 founder nations of the European single currency. He holds a BSc (Hons) from the London School of Economics.

Experience Yayoi Kusama’s universe—without waiting in line—with your own personal guided tour of the exhibition Yayoi Kusama: Every Day I Pray for Love, now on view at David Zwirner’s 20th Street gallery. The exhibition will feature new paintings, new sculptures, an immersive installation, and the debut of INFINITY MIRRORED ROOM – DANCING LIGHTS THAT FLEW UP TO THE UNIVERSE, 2019.
One of the most influential artists of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, Kusama occupies a unique position within recent art history. Since her early assimilation of pop art and minimalism in the 1960s, she has created a highly personal oeuvre that resonates with a global audience. Distinctly recognizable, her works frequently deploy repetitive elements—such as dots—to evoke both microscopic and macroscopic universes.
Guided by a gallery director, this exclusive tour will give you and a small group of guests (10-20) private access to the exhibition on a day when the gallery is closed to the public. The group can choose to view the exhibition between 6-7 PM on Monday, December 2nd or Monday, December 9th 2019.

Buy It Now on Artsy
The Coalition for the Homeless’s Grand Central Food Program (GCFP) was founded in 1985 the day after a homeless woman died of starvation in Grand Central Terminal. Since then, the program has grown to become the largest mobile soup kitchen in America.
Each night, our three vans deliver between 800 and 1,200 healthy meals of hot stew, bread, fresh fruit, and juice or milk — as well as coats, hats, gloves and blankets in the colder weather — to those struggling to survive rough on the streets at 25 stops around the city. For many homeless New Yorkers, this is their only meal of the day.
In its 33 year history, the program has distributed more than seven million meals and has never missed a single night of operation.
