GCFP Volunteer: Héléne

I started volunteering about eight years ago when my daughter was in high school and needed to do community service. I felt it was a great opportunity for me to set an example.

My favorite part of volunteering with GCFP would be the group we have formed over the years –“The Friday Night Crew.” I also really enjoy getting to know some of the clients and engaging in the exchange of words, smiles and mutual appreciation. One time a 92-year-old man named Sam told me about his life and then gave me a kiss!

If you would like to volunteer with the Grand Central Food Program I would say to be generous with yourself. Be respectful and never forget that anyone could become homeless. Also, be grateful, it shows in the way that you serve.
