Coalition for the Homeless and The Legal Aid Society Statement on Mayor Adams’ Housing Announcement

“While Mayor Adams’ reforms to expand access to affordable housing are a good first step, the City must take far bolder actions. The City must expand access to housing subsidies regardless of immigration status, robustly enforce source-of-income discrimination protections, eliminate the 90-day waiting period for CityFHEPS, facilitate placements into all vacant supportive housing units, and streamline administrative processes that delay housing moves. We also call on the Mayor to build at least 6,000 apartments per year for homeless households and 6,000 apartments per year for extremely low-income households. These reforms are urgently needed to meaningfully reduce homelessness.”
