NEW YORK, NY— The following statement is in response to Coalition for the Homeless-alum Daniel W. Tietz’s forthcoming nomination to serve as Commissioner of the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) and his interim appointment as Acting Commissioner.

“The Coalition for the Homeless applauds Governor Hochul’s decision to nominate Daniel Tietz to serve as Commissioner of OTDA. It will be refreshing to have a commissioner who understands homelessness, and has years of direct experience serving homeless individuals and families, as well as people with mental illnesses and those living with HIV/AIDS. In his four years with the Coalition for the Homeless, and later with HRA and Bailey House, Dan demonstrated his passion for his fellow New Yorkers as well as his skills as an administrator and clinician. He has spent much of his career fighting alongside many in our community in support of the lasting solutions proven to work in response to housing instability and homelessness. We thank Gov. Hochul for this thoughtful decision and congratulate Acting Commissioner Tietz on his appointment and nomination,” said Shelly Nortz, Deputy Executive Director for Policy with Coalition for the Homeless.
