Take Action

Real change can be made when every day New Yorkers stand up, and demand it. Here, please find a list of actionable items you can take, to help impact policy across our city.

Tell City Council to Add More Housing for Homeless and Extremely Low-Income Folks

March, 2026 – Despite record levels of “affordable” housing production in recent years, most of the “affordable” housing created by the City excludes households who are homeless and extremely low-income. The City needs to Build from the Bottom Up with 60,000 new units over the next five years for homeless households and the lowest income New Yorkers.  New York City must prioritize investing capital funding to build homes specifically for those who are currently homeless and for extremely low-income households at imminent risk of homelessness.

Wifi in Shelters: Guarantee Internet Access in Homeless Shelters in the Budget

February, 2026 – Reliable internet access is essential to secure housing, employment, education, health care, benefits, and legal services. Yet, an estimated 40% of shelters for single adults and adult families in NYC don’t provide Wi-Fi to residents. A bill is pending in the state legislature that would guarantee access to Wi-Fi for people in shelter. Contact your state elected officials to urge them to: ensure internet access is available in shelters/temporary housing statewide, treat connectivity as essential infrastructure for services and stability, and baseline data privacy protections for shelter residents.
