De Blasio Plan Would Improve Conditions at Homeless Shelters

Mayor Bill de Blasio, who has grappled with a growing homeless problem during his tenure, said Monday that the city’s homeless population is declining and rolled out a new initiative to improve shelter conditions.

More than 56,000 people currently reside in the city’s homeless shelters, down from a high of more than 59,000 in December, according to the administration’s data.
