Have You Sent Your Letter to Mayor Bloomberg Yet?

Last week, we released new data showing that the number of kids sleeping in City shelters is poised to reach 20,000, an all-time record high and an undeniable crisis.

And yet, in the midst of this crisis, the Bloomberg administration refuses to give homeless families priority access to affordable housing resources, such as public housing. In fiscal year 2012, 6,012 households were placed in public housing. As of March 2012 (3 months shy of the full fiscal year and the latest data we have), only 79 homeless families were counted among those 6,000.

In light of these numbers, the Bloomberg administration cannot continue to fall back on blaming this homelessness crisis on the economy. Just this week, the Census Bureau reported that more than a quarter of all homeless children in United States shelters were in New York. And the denial of housing assistance clearly demonstrates why.

Send a letter to Mayor Bloomberg today and tell him that 20,000 homeless kids can’t afford to wait any longer. They need housing now.
