Push to Boost Housing Aid for Domestic Violence Victims

ALBANY — The head of the city Human Resources Administration was in Albany Tuesday to lobby to include domestic violence victims in a state rental assistance program designed to prevent homelessness.

Steve Banks also was pushing to raise the rental assistance rate to $1,500, up from $1,000.

The plan, which has support from Assembly Democrats, would help 1,600 domestic violence victims and cost the state $8.3 million in the first year and the city more than $20 million, Banks said.
