June, 2026 – Reliable internet access is essential to secure housing, employment, education, health care, benefits, and legal services. Yet, an estimated 40% of shelters for single adults and adult families in NYC don’t provide Wi-Fi to residents. A bill is pending in the state legislature that would guarantee access to Wi-Fi for people in shelter. Contact your state elected officials to urge them to: ensure internet access is available in shelters/temporary housing statewide, treat connectivity as essential infrastructure for services and stability, and baseline data privacy protections for shelter residents.
