About the Campaign

We are now celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the Grand Central Food Program, launched the day after a homeless woman died of starvation in Grand Central Terminal. The program is now the largest nightly mobile soup kitchen in New York, and has never missed a single night of operation.

To commemorate three decades of unfailing service to our city’s most vulnerable men, women and children, the Coalition is running a special GCFP30 Campaign to honor the staff, the volunteers and the tens of thousands of homeless people we serve on the streets of the city.

Our goal is to raise $300,000 by June 30th to ensure that we can keep this vital program going. Like you, we believe no one should have to go to sleep hungry and homeless on the streets of NYC.

There are so many easy ways you can help!

•  Click the SUPPORT tab above to learn how to join our peer-to-peer Crowdrise Campaign;
•  Become a CORPORATE SPONSOR of one of our vans;
•  Or simply make a GIFT to the program.

And don’t forget to take a minute to explore this GCFP30 site and read the inspiring stories of our volunteers and the people we serve each night.

About the Grand Central Food Program

The Grand Central Food Program, launched 30 years ago the night after a homeless woman died of starvation in Grand Central Terminal, is New York’s largest nightly mobile soup kitchen. Every single night of the year, our three vans – manned by our loyal volunteers – hand out roughly 1,000 nutritious meals consisting of hot stew, fresh fruit, bread and milk to those living rough on the street of the city. During the cold winter months we also hand out blankets, coats, hats and other emergency items when available.

In three decades we have never missed a single night of operation: Not during January’s brutal blizzard. Not during Hurricane Sandy. Never. We have distributed more than six million meals in our history, and have brought countless homeless people in out of the cold. We save lives – and bring hope and a way off the streets for the most fragile and marginalized New Yorkers.

The program is staffed almost entirely by volunteers who drive the vans and hand out the food each night, many of whom have been with us for years. Click here to learn more about the program or find out how to volunteer, and here to support out GCFP30 Campaign.
